Pre-made packages for distributions

These packages have not necessarily been created by any of the developers of Minetest. Contact their authors in case of problems (at first).

NOTE: Do not use daily/unstable versions on servers or persistent worlds, they can sometimes corrupt the world.

Other instructions

If your distribution is not listed above, you can get the source code.

If you have packaged it for some other distribution, contact me so I can link to it.

For others

There exists a FreeBSD port.

It is known to compile relatively easily on OpenBSD at least. It should work quite fine on all platforms on which Irrlicht works.

Source code

Stable (ea18a47d4386): tar.gz, zip.

TIP: tar.gz, zip. NOTE: Sometimes works very badly when there are some bigger changes going on.

Does it build easily?

For Windows, look in doc/README.txt

For Linux, it is easy. Here is an example for Debian/Ubuntu:
Note that the minimum supported version of Irrlicht is 1.7.0.

Install dependencies:
$ apt-get install build-essential libirrlicht-dev cmake libbz2-dev libpng12-dev libjpeg8-dev libxxf86vm-dev libgl1-mesa-dev libsqlite3-dev
Download source, extract:
$ wget
$ tar xf tip.tar.gz
$ cd minetest
Build a version that runs directly from the source directory:
$ cmake . -DRUN_IN_PLACE=1
$ make -j2
Run it:
$ cd bin
$ ./minetest
